You’re chasing dopamine because nothing in your day feels like yours. (221/365)
Doing shit that feels good right now, only to fall in a heap later.
The Daily Space Builder - Day 221/365
I used to wonder why it was so hard to do the things I knew I needed to do.
Exercise. Eat well. Show up for the stuff that actually mattered.
All of it felt like dragging myself through mud.
I was doing everything I was told I should be doing.
I bought a house when I actually wanted to go overseas.
I stayed in a job I hated because it paid well.
I kept showing up for people in my family who were toxic to be around.
So I started drinking…a lot.
And I couldn’t stop.
All I wanted to do was escape my life and feel good.
That eventually led to me racking up $300k+ worth of debt and fracturing relationships that have never been repaired.
It doesn’t matter if it’s porn, alcohol, or any other kind of drug.
It’s all the same. Escape and feel good right now.
Because you have nothing to look forward to.
It’s just the same old shit every day.
It isn’t until you take away those quick hits of dopamine. The alcohol, porn, drugs. That you start realising how much you dislike the direction you’re heading.
And you have two choices.
Willpower your way through the life you don’t want because you think it’s what you should be doing.
Or figure out what you want your Perfect Awesome Life to look like. Who you want to be two years from now. And then start closing the gap between who you are now and who you actually want to be.
For me, it started with being Built2Last and Built4Adventure.
I wanted to prove I could do all these amazing physical things as I age. I never want to stop.
Then I wanted to Be The Man. For myself, my kids, and my partner.
And to facilitate all of that, I needed to build Stealth Authority. To earn enough for all of us to actually live the life we want.
Every day I follow my Freedom Framework.
The thing that keeps me in my feel-good zone and away from the quick dopamine hits.
A simple system that, done every day, creates C.A.L.M. in my life.
Clarity about who I am and where I’m going
Alignment of my actions to that person
Leverage of my time, money, and attention toward what matters most
Momentum toward my Perfect Awesome Life
When you’re in that zone, collecting proof every day that you’re being the man you said you’d be, you don’t need the escape anymore.
Because the life you’re living starts to feel like yours.
